October Challenge!
I couldn’t go another month without a challenge! I just couldn’t.
I am actually pretty excited about this month’s challenge. I think it is quite fun and versatile. Let’s dive in!
We are going to do Alphabet Cards!
I found this paper pad at Michael’s Craft Store for Acrylic Paint. The paper is so thick, it is just perfect for this challenge! No need to double up paper to get nice and sturdy cards.
Now I’m not saying you have to use this paper. I’m just showing you what I am using because I know I will get asked. I’ve done 3 cards so far and I am loving it.
To begin I took a sheet of the paper and divided it in half lengthwise. Then I turned the paper and divided it at every 3 1/2”.
This gives you cards that are 3 1/2” X 5 1/2”. I am finding it a great size to work with.
Now I like my corners rounded. You may leave yours as is, but I like the softness and finished look that the rounded corners give.
I had two corner rounders and one of them I knew wasn’t going to work on this thick paper. The other one did work but after doing just 8 cards my wrist was hurting from how hard I had to push to get through the thick paper. So I ended up buying a new one that I knew could chomp through really thick paper.
The first corner punch, a Fiskars, is a great one just not great for thick paper. If you try to use it on something too thick, you can and will break your punch. So I didn’t even try. (I speak from experience)
The little punch you see in the middle, it’s great too. I’m not sure the brand, the only writing I can find on it says CARL. This one did punch the corners no problem. It was doing a fine job, I just couldn’t handle it. If I was in pain after only 8 cards - imagine doing 26!
So I went online to find a tool I knew could do the job. The Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper. I checked Amazon first thinking it would be cheaper and I could possibly get it even the next day. But there were few to be found and the ones I did were crazy priced! So I went on Michael’s website and they had some at my nearest location! Now I wasn’t going to run into town that night just for the tool. So I ordered and paid for it online and picked it up when I went to town for work the next day! AND it was less expensive than on Amazon AND I had a coupon which made it even cheaper still! How great is that!
Now I have some cards ready to go!
I went ahead and made 3 cards to give you an idea where I was going with this. Now you can do whatever theme you want or no theme at all. I’m going for ‘Things I Like’ and I’m keeping it fun. lol I’m pretty sure I am going to stick with collage as well. But there’s no rule saying I have to. I may incorporate some stamped images in with the collage bits as well. Like notice on the second card, the legs/feet are from a Dylusions stamp!
For these cards, so far I have been using Gouache which is not something I am use to playing with at all, but I thought ‘why not’. I am not limiting myself to just that medium though. I may use acrylic on some yet. Who knows. There are no rules. Well it’s a challenge, so of course there’s a few rules.
It must be “Alphabet Cards”. The whole point of this challenge is to do a word starting with each letter of the alphabet.
The cards should be 3 1/2“ X 5 1/2”.
HAVE FUN WITH IT!
That is it! If you have any questions drop it down below in the comment section. I hope you have as much fun with this challenge as I am so far!
