Inspiration from Arty Friends
There are so many ways to find inspiration and with today’s social media it has become even easier. The world is filled with amazing artist who love to share their art and it’s all at our fingertips! Instagram, for one, is just a steady stream of beautiful art created by talented artist.
Megan Whisner-Quinlan is one of those incredibly talented artist. She is someone who inspires me daily.
I love every single one of her post. Megan’s pages always look so magnificently put together and her doodles....sigh….where do I start!
I'm just in love with everything that woman creates.
So when she was inspired by something I did!!! I was beyond flattered and thrilled!
It all started with my Quirky Collage Mini that I made about a year ago. I wanted to create an album with different shaped pages that was colorful and full of Dylusions stamps, stencils , and collage images from Mischief Circus. Dyan didn’t have her collage sheets out at the time I made this album (or I didn’t have them in my hands anyway).
Megan was one of the people who felt inspired to make an album of her own and she did an incredible job.
Here is what Megan had to say.
“When I first saw Denise's Quirky Collage Mini Album I was blown away by the colors and creativity. As a book maker, I knew I had to try to make one of my own. Luckily, she had a YouTube video tutorial, so I was floored to get started. I truly enjoyed making my own book, and to this day, it is my most favorite book that I have ever made.”
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was to see her album!!! I just love how she incorporates magazine images and mixes them with Dylusions collage sheets.
Look how she adds journaling to the hair in the second picture below!
Megan enjoyed making the album so much that she kept revisiting it and wanting to make another! This time she created one her way, shaping the pages differently, creating a more narrow and curvy album. It is stunning.
Megan writes…
“Recently, I was revisiting my handmade journals and I paged through my version of Denise's book. I knew it was time to make another. This time, I decided to vary her layout and make one more muted and more wavy. I went with a vintage collage style to see what would happen. So far I love it. I'm actually eager to start another...how about you?”
Isn’t that beautiful!!! Her doodles get me every single time and pastels are not even my thing, but Megan makes me want to go shopping for some new paint colors! She makes them look incredible!
I just fell in love with this album and wanted to make one so bad.
But I didn’t want to just completely copy Megan’s album. I wanted to change it in some way to make it more me…
I decided to go with black and white!!! I love the bold contrast of the colors.
I was surprised by how challenging I found working only in black and white. I didn’t think it would be difficult, if anything I thought it would make it easier. But I struggled in the beginning. However once I played for a while, I got into the groove and was loving every single minute of it!
Isn’t it fun to witness how art inspires others? I love seeing how creatives take a project and put their twist on it!

I have been chatting with Megan on Instagram and the exchange of inspiration continues. Megan has returned to the first styled album, the Quirky Collage Mini, and is doing it in black and white! How fabulous!!! I just know when I see her album I too will be inspired to make another and keep the creative ball rolling.
